Monthly Make - Work In Progress & Gifts for a Friend.

When I signed up for The Felt Fairy's Monthly Make I thought it would be a good opportunity to make things for myself. I am always making things but they are usually for tutorials, gifts or party decor. So I'm terming it My Monthly Make, (with emphasis on the my), because I am going to be greedy and make it for me :)

Also I stated that I would do 12 different craft styles throughout the year, (ahem, very brave I know - hope I can keep it up!), They'll be a mix of new styles, not-so-new styles and tried-and-trusted styles. Last month was Jewellery - I made myself some gorgeous ribbon rosette cuffs and a gem heart bangle.

This month I have decided upon 'Cross Stitch'. Whilst browsing the Cross Stitch kits in Hobby Craft for a gift for my bloggy/real friend's birthday, (I picked her up a sweet Cupcake cross stitch kit), I saw a really fab easy-looking Monogram kit. Well, I am not a total stranger to cross-stitch but my last attempt was about 10 years ago! Definitely not as easy as I thought, but then I'm not much of a sewer...

...But I am going to persevere as I have a lovely idea of making a 'Family Tree' style picture frame with the monogram 'T' in the centre (for our surname).

Also, I picked up this kit, (for a bargain!), that I want to work my way up to...

...2 beautiful shell kits. Hmmm, ambitious maybe?

Anyway I hope to be able to show the finished article/s by the end of the month!

How are your Monthly Makes coming along?

As I had mentioned my friend's birthday I thought I would show you what I made for her to send along with the cupcake kit...

...a baby pin-cushion storage jar filled with thread, buttons and some pins.

Aww, here it is with it's Mummy ;)

I also handmade a card (I don't handmake many these days, just usually for special occasions.)...

(Excuse the poor photo!)

I used the papers, a bit of ribbon and mount from the kit I won from the Scrapbook Sisters, along with my teapot / teacup stamps, a 'Happy Birthday' banner and a jewel brad. I love how it turned out, all soft and girly!

And speaking of Tea I am happy to have been paired up with Dazie in Pretty Little Jewel's Afternoon Tea Swap - Very excited!

Right, I am off to feed the starving and then try to finish this cheeky little cross stitch!

Have a lovely evening!

xx

  2. I look forward to seeing the finished cross stiches :) I do enjoy cross stitching, though I haven't done some in awhile (the last project I did was a cross stich cushion cover from a pattern in the Cath Kidston stitch book). I do find it relaxing to do when I am watching the television :)

  8. I think it's great that you are making something for yourself. Good luck with your cross stitching. I used to do a bit myself too before I got into more messy crafts - not sure the old eyesight would be up to it anymore now!
